There has been a dilemma whether woman should contour their faces or not. This 'technique' was so popular a while ago with Kim Kardashian who made her contouring so ever famous.
There are makeup companies who even brought out a contouring palette.
Recently I discovered that contouring is a big no-no.
I personally love contouring a face.
When you look at any person's face, you will notice several skin tones and also natural shadows and highlights.
When applying a foundation, (which is just one skin tone), you loose all those natural shadows and highlights.
Foundation gives you a solid, blank canvas. There are woman who don't even consider contouring, let alone a blusher. The face ends up looking flat with no depth at all.
The point I want to make is that contouring is so very important, but you need to know how to do it properly.
Once the foundation has been applied to the face, you need to create 'NATURAL' shadows and highlights by using the right products and techniques. It is the same as creating depth and shape to the face.
The best way to achieve a good application is to do research. Look at pictures of natural faces and see where there are shadows and highlights.
Be careful how you contour, as all faces have different shapes.
Apply your makeup in a well lit area, preferably day light and make sure both sides of your face has equal lighting. Use soft makeup brushes and very little product. Remember that less is more. Add a rosy shade of blush to give a healthy, flushed look.
Also remember to add a little sheen on your face. You do not want a skin that looks dry and dehydrated. Most common areas to add sheen are the following: forehead, below the brow bone, cupid's bow, chin, nose bridge and cheekbones.
