I have a niece who is living on the other side of the world. We don't get to see each other unless we communicate via facebook.
She loves fashion and is always following new trends. I recently got e message from her that read as follows:
Wish u were here to help me sort out my Closet...... way too much clothes that I DON'T wear, or I don't know how to put the pieces together!!!!
I think this is a major issue for a lot of woman out there.
Woman seem to follow trends and end up buying lots of clothing items without planning or even having a look at what they have and need.
My solution is the following:

  • Remove all your clothes from your closet.
  • Sort everything out by different categories. ie; skirts, tops, shirts, etc.
  • Do you have neutrals in each category? ie: black, white, beige/sandy colour.
  • Remove those and put them aside. You should have at least one neutral in each category. If not, make a note.
  • Now, look at the rest of your clothes and choose one colour item of each category that suits you the best. Think of all the compliments you get when wearing colours. That should be a good indication as to what to choose.
  • Patterns that are timeless: - stripes, dots, squares, floral....are good, provided that it is not psychedelic, too bright/luminous or too large.
  • Colours that will always have a comeback: -  red, navy, fuchsia, olive, ocher, pastels and burnt colours (oranges, yellows)
  • You should now have a collection of items. The items that you did not select, BAG IT!
  • Now take the colour items and try to match up with a neutral. Swop the items around and see what works the best.
I will add some more posts regarding this topic. You can also refer to my previous posts: My little black number and plus size woman.
I will gladly answer any questions you have regarding this topic.

WINTER BLUES

DO THESE QUESTIONS SOUND FAMILIAR?

Why is my eyeliner not applying properly?
Why is my cream concealor gone hard?
Why doesn't my foundation apply properly?
My lip pencil has gone hard and I struggle to draw a perfect line!

Like everything else freezes and get hard in winter time, so does all your make-up!
So, let's solve the problem before you decide to throw your product away.

First of all, we need heat in order to soften the products.

  • Eye and lip pencils/crayons, lipsticks, concealor crayons or any other product that is in a pencil/crayon form.
Use a hairdryer and blow warm air for a few second onto the tip of your product.
Try not to melt it. The tip needs to get soft enough in order for easy application.
You will find that your pencil/crayon will glide easily on your skin.
Do this every time you need to use the products.
  • Cream conealor, cream blush, cream eyeshadow.
          Do the same as above
          or
decant a small amount onto your clean warmed up hand.
If hand is cold, wash it in warm water so it can warm up.

  • Liquid or cream foundations.
Let bottle stand in a bowl and fill up with enough warm water to cover half of bottle.
Leave the bottle for a minute or so, remove, shake and its all ready to be applied onto skin.
If your bottle has a pump, remove pump and wash under warm water.
This will unblock the pump and make your application easier.

Braids for Brides

These are just some of many braids that can be used on bride's hair.
Some are just very stylish and classic, others are just easy and no fuss bohemian styles.
All you need are your fingers to braid, a curling tong to add some waves and some hair clips to secure the braids and viola!

Powder versus Cream make-up

It is wise to use powder make up in summer, as your skin is always shiny and tend to be more oily.
The powder will absorb and mattefy the skin.

In winter it is a different story all together. Your skin tends to be dry, so try using cream and emollient make up.
This will stay longer and will make your skin look healthy and glowy.
